Musical Assessments & Blinds!
It would seem that my interview for the music teaching job went well. I have been offered a spot in the second stage assessment. This will be an in person event in Bath. I have been given a song to learn that I will have to play alongside other applicants. The idea is that we each take turns on all of the instruments to demonstrate our ability to adapt to musical requirements. From the sounds of it, this will be less about our playing ability and more about how well we can ad

Vocal Demos and Teaching Opportunities
After turning 28 yesterday, I feel like I have had a few gifts thrown my way on the creative front this week. A new career opportunity showed itself this week in the form of an interview. iRock School of Music is currently looking for full time staff to run sessions. The job would involve teaching kids about making music in a setting that allows them to all pick up an instrument and have a go. I would be leading these sessions in multiple schools around the area. I love the

Some Studio Privacy
With my 28th birthday coming up next week, I thought id use some annual leave to spend some time with the family and continuing to work on the studio. Including splashing out on some blinds so I can finally work in there at night without feeling like i'm being watched. I have put even more shelving up in the past week, the room is starting to get that cluttered but tidy vibe which I really like. I want to be able to display as many cool creative things as I can in there and s

New Desk and Tool Storage
Its been a little while since iv been able to post here despite having made a lot of progress on the studio. The desk is up and everything has been moved around. It is nice to have things set up in a way I can easily be creative again. Iv also got a cool little peg board to store tools on. The main priority has been finding good storage solutions for all of my stuff and so far its going well. I even finally have some blinds showing up soon so I don't have to feel like my neig

Studio on a Budget & Classic Guitar
I'm starting this one at 6am on a Monday morning because life got in the way of spending this time recording some classical guitar. I was able to get hold of one that my Dad had laying around so I plan to take it on short term loan for a track I am working on. That recording would of took place now if it wasn't for the little one deciding to be awake since 3am. Needless to say I wasn't going to be doing mic recordings with him in here... Its now been a couple of weeks since I

New Year Back in Gear
Its been a slow reboot since Christmas and new year. With everything that goes on during that time I think hardly had the chance to step in the studio. In fact it actually ended up becoming the hiding spot for presents making it almost off limits during the day. It is what I expected after all and it was nice to focus on family time for a bit. Now we are 8 days into the new year and iv got my sleep schedule back on track, i'm up early enough to make this post. I feel like I s

Gear Organisation & Christmas Productivity
As of last night I have had the opportunity to move around my studio... again. After a surprise addition to our family, we need a new unit for Flash the tortoise. Turns out that my shelving unit/ desk is just the right size for the job meaning it will be moving down stairs. That leaves me on the market for a new desk and an opportunity to reprioritises my layout. I have a pretty clear plan set out in my head for this but the one thing it doesn't account for is my ever growing

The Battle Against Phone Speakers
With the run up to Christmas being ever busier, I have made sure to use up what ever little free time iv had for little creative ideas. I like to finish ideas so I can export them locally or send them to SoundCloud even if here isn't much too them. Doing this has two benefits for me, firstly it gives me a nice little bank of inspiration for when I need them and secondly it stops me from keeping tones of half baked projects that clog up my computer memory. When doing these upl

A Latin American Inspiration
A couple of weeks ago me and my son were looking for something to watch on TV for the afternoon. As Halloween was on the way we settled the Disney film Coco. A first for him. Despite him initially complaining that it we weren't watching UP for the 16th time, he come away with a new favorite film for the month as well as a thresh set of songs to run around the house singing! I too found myself reminded oh how good the music in that film was. Disney rarely ever miss the mark wh

Studio Changes and Fireworks
The week of Bonfire Night is a mixed bag in the work of audio production. Its very hard to record anything in a studio with literal explosions going on outside so that was a no go. Instead I decided to embrace the noise by capturing it instead of blocking it out. When I found myself at the local common walking the dogs I took the opportunity to get some extended recordings of the the space. The fireworks could be heard on all sides however they were moderately far away so I w

Post Halloween Momentum
Halloween has come and gone and now I am coming up to bonfire night with a cold. The Halloween weekend distracted me a little with horror games and pumpkin festivals but now i'm back in routine and want to get back to my projects! I made a small amount of progress on the Wwise project since last post. My focus was on the hovering platform. I had the idea that I wanted it to sound very high tech just because of how it is floating so effortlessly without fault. It feels like it

Project Scope Expansion
After a short break i'm back looking into my Wwise implementation project. This post was originally going to be about my plan to move the project to a first person perspective however just before sitting down to write this I came across a video of someone using a variation of the same unreal template to make Wwise implementation demo. Seeing how good the demo can look when completed to a high standard has made me more determined to stick at it. The video will also serve as a
