I now have a full demo from Sena for our project and I am very happy with the results. Now that I have a good idea of how the full thing will sound I will be able to modify the structure around her vocal patterns. Most importantly I will be able to decide if and how I want to add backing vocals.
Im still looking for inspiration from an Olivia Dean style of backing vocals but that is easier said than done. Working through this project has reminded me how difficult vocals can be to mix into a track. I want to do some research on vocal mixing in order to get the most out of this track. Its actually something I haven't had a tone of experience in, making this a sort of first for me. There seems to be a lot more to vocal mixing on a full track compared to short clips. The main thing being a discrepancy in recording spaces. I often find that you can hear room tones a lot more in vocal recordings compared to other instruments. It would be interesting to know why that is.
Im going to put some more work into this and hopefully have a good standpoint to guide Sena in the final recordings.
