Studio Changes and Fireworks

The week of Bonfire Night is a mixed bag in the work of audio production. Its very hard to record anything in a studio with literal explosions going on outside so that was a no go. Instead I decided to embrace the noise by capturing it instead of blocking it out. When I found myself at the local common walking the dogs I took the opportunity to get some extended recordings of the the space.

The fireworks could be heard on all sides however they were moderately far away so I was able to pick up all of the sound that was reflecting off of the houses on its way up to me. I personally really enjoy the quality of distant sounds like this. The way it gives the impression that there is some big event off in the distance that the listener has been able to find a secluded spot to observe. Im glad I was able to find a spot like this on the best night for it. This weekend we will also be going to see a firework display up close so I think that may also been a good recording opportunity.

Between the explosive recordings and and beautiful displays iv also be dong more work on the studio setup. With all the work I am doing around Wwise it was starting to get quite frustrating switching between the Mac and PC every time I need to test something. Iv always wanted the room to be set up so I could have both ready to go at all times but that was tricky with the limited desk space. It occurred to me this week however that I have a storage unit in the room that is actually built to sit both up right and on its side. When on its side it offers a fair bit of worktop space so I decided I had to make it fit somehow so I could make use of it as a desk. That is exactly what I did. Granted the room is a bit of a mess as things have lost their spaces but in terms of usability it is a lot better! Im going to spend some time going through and having a real clear out next week and hopefully get things looking tidy again. Im sure this wont be the final change I make to the room but right now I am happy with the setup.
