October has only just started and I already find myself listening to Halloween themed lofi to start my day. Iv always been one to appreciate the change of season so i'm pretty quick to shift to a more spooky theme around this time of year. It also means I will very likely have some creepy projects in the pipeline that I may or may not finish. I do have a vocal recording I picked up on Reddit iv been meaning to make a demo with that would fit the season very will. Maybe ill bump that up teh priorities list! Anyway, on to the actual update...
Booting Up Unreal
In a continued effort to build my portfolio, its back to Wwise practice. I want to put together a video that acts like both a technical demonstration for Wwise and evidence of my ability to use it creatively. To do this I will essentially use it to implement some of my own work into a game in Unreal, making a point to show off all the different ways Wwise can implement sound without in depth coding. The video will include clips of teh game and the Wwise session. My first step in this project is finding demo game to work on which means I finally have good justification to use my PC! Iv heard that Unreal itself has a number of built in demos I could use so I will look there first. Even though I want be doing any real work in engine yet I need to know wha kind of demo I can get my hands on so I know what kind of sound I need to make. Obviously I need to ensure that the demo includes some good quality sound assets by myself and good quality means accurate to the visuals.
This project is defiantly going to give me a much needed refresh on my Wwise skills as well as my coding implementation. I know in a typical dev team it is unlikely id be required to work on any code and Wwise makes it very easy to be hands off about that sort of thing. I think its still good to have practice in these things though. The more I understand about other roles in a given project the more I am able to tailor my work to fit around their needs. It will defiantly be one of the bigger scale portfolio peaces I have done but I think it will be worth the effort.
