After around 10 years of my audio career, I finally found myself in a position where I could get some studio monitors!

After dropping my car off in the garage for a break pad replacement, I found myself walking through my local high street for the first time in months. I thought i'd take this rare opportunity to have a browse of the local second hand tech shop as they always have plenty of interesting music and gaming gear on display. Looking through the window I noticed that they had a pair of KRK Rokit 5's. I knew these were decent monitors but they normally cost around £150 - £200 each in this condition and i'm not willing to spend that much when there are many good competitors at that price on the market. When looking at the label however I noticed that they wanted £160 for the pair. After confirming this with the staff I simply couldn't pass up on such a good deal! It was a bit of a job trying to get them home without the car but I now have a new addition to the setup.

Iv been able to spend a little bit of time this week mixing and producing and i'm already seeing the benefits of having them. For a while now i'v been doing all of my work through my Sony MDR headphones which are great for getting a truly flat output. As a result i'v had to get very good at predicting how that flat sound will translate to other devices. With these new monitors I am finding that the relationship between the low and mid frequencies are much closer to what I expect in a final product. I did have to use the monitors built in filter to ease off the low end a little bit I think that is only because of the lack of treatment in the room as well as its narrow shape. All in all I am very happy with the KRK's and i'm excited to see how they effect my process flow in the future. It will also be interesting to see how loud I can get them before the family tell me off!

I'v been continuing to work on improving other parts of my studio as well as looking into new projects and opportunities though I wont go into all of that today. For now i'm just enjoying building my space and seeing what it can do for me.
